National Donut Day & Diet Culture

First off, HAPPY NATIONAL DONUT DAY!

Second, I can not believe I haven’t written about diet culture yet…

Here are my thoughts:

  1. You reading this, you have a perfect body & it’s beautiful & so are you!
  2. People need to stop fat & body shaming others, seriously not cool, don’t be an internet or real life bully!
  3. Stop feeding into negativity & self-doubt, think & be positive & always try your hardest
  4. Stop comparing yourself to others, there is only ONE of you out there & that’s what makes you so unique!
  5. Don’t let your mind bully your body. Eat the donut, it’s okay!

We live in a society where we think we need to weight a certain amount or look a certain way, and its wrong. Diet culture has such a big part of that because the media feeds us commercialized looks and diet plans we should try. I am guilty myself of trying things such as Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, counting calories. I am also guilty of comparing my bodies to others. It took me a very long time to realize all bodies are good and beautiful, and we should love for what we have and embrace it. I have been struggling with my weight ever since I was a little girl (seriously I remember trying to diet around the age of 7 or 8 years old). I used to get picked on for my weight because I wasn’t up to standards to my peers. I was labeled “The Fat One” on someone’s cell phone, I also found that out on my birthday. Being shamed for my body was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life, but now I see the good in things. In some weird way, it helped me create a platform for myself to promote self-love and body positivity. I share these messages, experiences, and stories I have with others, to let people know how worthy, and beautiful they truly are!

Today I live a diet free lifestyle, and with that I mean, I enjoy my donuts, ice cream, pizza, buffalo chicken wraps, french fries, Chinese takeout and I continue to live my life. I stay active and on the move, and have well-balanced meals while also enjoying my favorite foods. I was so unhappy, depressed and miserable on fad diets, it was taking over my life, but not anymore because I am in control! Anyone who has made fun of my weight or appearance, I forgive them but feel sorry for them, because I’m out here living my best life!

Happy National Donut Day!

Shout to Dunkin Donuts for the free blueberry donut with a purchase of any drink!

xoxo,

Tory Lava
